Siem Reap is home to some of the world’s oldest trees. From Ta Prohm where Tomb Raider was filmed, to the temples of Angkor Wat & Angkor Thom, these trees surround these ancient sites. On our previous Cambodia retreats we highlighted the myths and stories of these temples, and we came away recognizing that the trees are actually what made those places come alive. They are hundreds of years old, and you can just imagine the history that they’ve witnessed through the centuries. Imagine such anchoring presence, wisdom and ancientness. Visualize yourself, standing beside these magnificent beings just receiving the sublime rejuvenating energy that they emit.

We are so excited to share with you one of Siem Reap's hidden gems, as our home & oasis for the unfolding of our 5-day Sadhana Journey Retreat. A luxury boutique hotel hidden in the shadows of the magnificent Angkorian temples. This property comes with two spacious and authentic Khmer-style villas housed in lush green gardens. Offering a personalized and bespoke experience for the discerning traveler, be it a couple or even the single travel connoisseur. This has been our sanctuary for the past few years and we can’t wait to share its beauty with you! The entire estate is privately our own for the duration of this retreat.

They have some of the warmest, most incredibly amazing staff that through the years have become our extended family and we can’t wait for you to meet them too!

It is our intention to make sure you have rest and quiet quality time for yourself, so go ahead and choose which suite is just perfect for you. Ideally each one of you has a private suite of your own but if you choose to share your room with someone please let us know.

THE KHMER HOUSE is an open plan structure built in the 1940s. It was saved from destruction at its former location, miles away from the property: delicately dismantled and faithfully restored at its present home. A traditional Cambodian wooden house on stilts, the structure has an open living area on the ground level and a large, air-conditioned bedroom space with a modern bathroom on the second level. The largest space in the property at 130 sqm, it also includes a relaxing terrace upstairs. The Khmer House is a true taste of traditional Cambodian living set amongst a backdrop of lush greenery. The pieces of antique furniture are the most refined of the entire property: a 1930s children’s bed that has been turned into a couch; the 3ft mahogany armchairs; and the striking art Deco table are a precious testimony of what could once be made in 1930s Cambodian wooden workshops. Tradition is combined with contemporary art, such as our stunning melted and sanded aluminium lamps and chairs by designer Quasar Khan. The bedroom is adorned with a major piece of art from Cambodian artist Lim Muy Theam, has a king sized bed and an exquisite Art Deco wooden couch that can be converted into a bed.

At 40 sqm plus an enchanting 37 sqm private terrace overlooking the pool, the light-filled Green Suite is extremely spacious for a couple.

Here, an original contemporary painting by Denis Laurent provides a striking contrast to the Art Déco furnishings that provide a fresh and airy feel to the spacious suite. The bed textiles are made by Khmer designer Sirivan Chak, as are the Angkorian flower curtains.

Charming antique and folk objects that we have collected along the way are displayed and used in the bathroom, bedroom and terrace, such as the painted suitcase that was used a century ago by Chinese immigrants or the rattan honey making  basket hung on the wall, used by indigenous villagers.

An old coconut tree day bed with a mosquito net and a mat are installed outside for afternoon naps or to spend a night under the shimmering stars.

A spacious accommodation at 77  sqm  with a large upstairs bathroom, the Yellow Suite hosts a queen size bed and a couch. The bed is a traditional antique Khmer bed made from rosewood. It can accommodate a couple and the couch can be turned into an extra bed. Wooden steps bring you up to a light-filled bathroom, with its large glass window looking at the sky and treetops. It features a terrazzo shower.

An open air wooden bridge leads you to a large covered and open air lounge area with view on the pool and the garden, decorated with 1950’s sofas and armchairs.

The bedroom is adorned with original fusion works from British artist Jo Lynch and a watercolour piece from Battambang-based artist Kcchao Touch.

The desk and the cupboard are original pieces from the 1950s and the bed side tables were sourced from a pagoda where they served as stools.

Built like an artist’s studio, the Purple suite is the only suite in the property with beautiful, traditional and locally made tiles – smooth and cool to the feet. You enter the room through a corridor and a wooden staircase with photos of the silk farm taken in 1993.

The décor mixes modern design and Cambodian 1950’s precious wood furniture; the Art works are from the owners’ collection. The bathroom is wide and made out of terrazzo and a modern composition of tiles. private house on stilts • 80 sqm • 2 bedrooms or 1 bedroom & 1 lounge • 1 queen size bed and 2 single beds that can be joined • private terrace • garden view • 1 dressing room • 1 bathroom • air-conditioning • wi-fi • hair-dryer • cold water bar • coffee & teas • room service • in-room safe • mobile phone • books • paréos, sarongs and slippers

The old house on stilts was found in the North of Kompong Thom province, in Sandan district, a village where the owner has family links. It was moved recently and is a new addition to the property.

The garden cottage is a family suite of 80 sqm with a large terrace, 2 bedrooms, a dressing room and a shared bathroom. It is located in the orchard of the property and surrounded by mango, areca palm, and wild berry trees.

From the terrace, you can enjoy the view of the century old trees of the neighbouring Ecole Francaise d’Extreme Orient and watch the colors of nature changing at sunset.

There is a twin bed bedroom which can also be turned into a living room and a double bedroom with a beautiful antique Chinese bed.

The style of the decoration is inspired by the rubber tree plantations cottages which were hosting planter families in Kompong Cham and Kompong Province in the 1930-1950s.
